Deploy Agent to Instagram

Learn how to connect your AI agent to Instagram Direct Messages so customers can interact with your agent through Instagram.

What is Instagram Deployment?

Instagram deployment allows your AI agent to automatically respond to Direct Messages (DMs) sent to your Instagram Business account. Customers can reach your agent by messaging your Instagram profile.

Prerequisites

Before deploying to Instagram, you'll need:

  • ✓ An Instagram Business or Creator account
  • ✓ Your Instagram account connected to a Facebook Business Page
  • ✓ A Meta Business Account
  • ✓ Your agent created and tested in AgentsGT
  • ✓ An active AgentsGT subscription

Setting Up Instagram Integration

Step 1: Open Agent Integrations

  1. Go to your agent's page in AgentsGT
  2. Click on "Advanced" or navigate to the agent's advanced settings
  3. Select the "Integrations" tab
  4. Find "Instagram" in the integrations list and click on it

Step 2: Connect Your Instagram Account

  1. Click the "Connect with Instagram" button
  2. You'll be redirected to Instagram's Business Login page
  3. Log in with your Instagram account credentials
  4. Grant the requested permissions for Direct Messages access
  5. Select the Instagram Business account you want to connect
  6. Click "Allow" to complete the authorization

Step 3: Verify the Connection

After successful authorization, you'll be redirected back to AgentsGT. You should see:

  • A "Connected" status badge on the Instagram integration
  • Your connected Instagram account information (username and account ID)

Step 4: Activate the Integration

  1. Toggle the "Active" switch to ON
  2. Click "Save" to save your settings

How It Works

Once connected, your agent will:

  1. Receive DMs — When someone sends a Direct Message to your Instagram account, it's forwarded to your agent via webhook
  2. Process the message — Your agent analyzes the message using its system prompt and knowledge base
  3. Send a reply — The agent sends a response back through Instagram DMs (up to 1,000 characters per message)

Supported message types:

  • Text messages
  • Quick replies (interactive buttons)
  • Media messages
  • Generic templates (carousel cards)

Testing Your Instagram Integration

Send a Test Message

  1. Open Instagram on your phone or desktop
  2. Go to your Business account's profile
  3. Tap "Message" to open a DM
  4. Send a test message
  5. Your AI agent should respond within seconds

What to test:

  • Simple greetings and questions
  • Common customer inquiries
  • Questions about your products or services
  • Multi-turn conversations
  • Edge cases and unusual requests

Check in AgentsGT

Monitor conversations in AgentsGT:

  1. Go to your agent's page
  2. Check the Chat History section
  3. Messages from Instagram will show the INSTAGRAM channel

Common Issues and Solutions

Agent Not Responding on Instagram?

  1. Check the Active toggle — Make sure the integration is turned ON in AgentsGT
  2. Verify your account type — Must be an Instagram Business or Creator account (not personal)
  3. Check Facebook Page connection — Your Instagram must be connected to a Facebook Page
  4. Check your credits — Make sure your organization has available credits
  5. Re-authorize — Try disconnecting and reconnecting the Instagram account

Message Too Long?

Instagram DMs have a 1,000 character limit. If your agent's response exceeds this limit, it will be automatically truncated. Consider:

  • Adding "Keep responses concise" to your agent's system prompt
  • Setting the tone to Concise
  • Instructing the agent to break long answers into key points

OAuth Authorization Failed?

  1. Make sure you're logging in with the correct Instagram account
  2. Verify your Instagram account is a Business or Creator account
  3. Ensure your Instagram is linked to a Facebook Business Page
  4. Check that your Meta Business Account is verified and in good standing

Need to Disconnect Instagram?

  1. Go to IntegrationsInstagram
  2. Toggle Active to OFF
  3. Click Save

  1. Optimize for brevity — Instagram DMs feel more casual. Keep responses short and direct
  2. Use a conversational tone — Match the casual nature of Instagram messaging
  3. Set expectations — Let users know they're chatting with an AI in your bio or greeting
  4. Monitor response quality — Review Instagram conversations regularly in AgentsGT
  5. Keep your Instagram profile updated — Complete profile info builds trust
  6. Respond to all messages — Instagram's algorithm favors accounts with high response rates
